How do I go green?

Reduce

Think twice before replacing your old phone.  Do you really need email on the go? Can you survive another year on a good working phone that has all but one of the gadgets you need?

Reuse

Follow manufacturer’s instructions to get the best use out of your batteries.
Donate your old phone to your daughter, nephew or parents. Or keep it handy on a ‘pay as you go’ plan for emergencies.

Recycle

Call2Recycle Call2Recycle is a product stewardship program for cell phones and batteries.
In the Capital Region, Rogers, Fido, Connect, Sound Advice, Tom Harris Cellular and Project Redial with Canadian Diabetes all accept used cell phones, batteries and chargers for recycling.

The Environmental Story

Cell phone batteries and chargers contain a variety of heavy metals, such as nickel, cadmium and lead, which can leach into the environment if thrown in the landfill. Every year, over 20 million tonnes of e-waste is disposed of worldwide. Recycling your cell phone and all its component parts saves the environment from toxic metals, protects our groundwater and increases the lifespan of the landfill.
