Make the most out of every piece of wood you use and help make our forestry practices sustainable. Look for lumber harvested in a responsible manner. Wood with the Forest Stewardship Council or FSC mark is a good choice.

How do I go green?
Reduce
Save money and time by making smart cuts. Utilise every inch of the lumber you have in order to reduce scrap wood. You’ll help green the earth as well as put more money in your pocket. The carbon foot print left by purchasing new lumber is a huge one. Dozens of fossil fuel burning engines (trucks, helicopters, boats, chainsaws etc.) are used to source, cut and transport each piece of lumber.
Reuse
If you have access to a chipper, you can use wood scraps (not plywood or OSB) for landscaping at home or sell the chips to neighbours for their own landscaping. Scrap wood can be used for shims, packing materials or other small projects. Collect smaller pieces for repairs or renovations in the future.
Recycle
Recyclable wood is often converted to Refuse Derived Fuel or RDF, which can then be utilised by another party as an alternative fuel source to create eco-friendly power. You can help others to go green by doing so yourself. Reuse lumber by saving the good sections from a renovation or demo. Take out the nails etc. and save or reuse what you can. The facilities listed below will most likely not accept pressure treated or creosote wood or wood that has been painted with lead based paint.

The Environmental Story
Wood lying in a landfill doesn’t disintegrate and return to the earth, it creates pollutants in the form of greenhouse gases. Don’t worry though, a green solution is at hand.
