Motor Oil (commercial)

Motor Oil (commercial)

Commercial quantities of used motor oil need to be safely collected, stored, and diverted from our landfills using a reputable company who will take care of this toxic substance. Changing the oil in one car can produce 4-5 litres of used oil.

How do I go green?

Reduce

Implement a no-idling policy to reduce oil and gas use and use longer lasting synthetic oils across your fleet. When purchasing new power tools, machinery, and vehicles, select brands with components or engines that will accept either biodegradable or synthetic oils. Regularly check for and immediately block leakages.

Reuse

Unless you are prepared to set up your own processing plant to re-refine your commercial quantities of used motor oil, the best option is to collect used oil and pass it on to a recycler.

Recycle

Contact the companies below to arrange for collection and removal of commercial quantities of motor oil. The BC Used Oil Management Association website also lists companies that will recycle commercial quantities of motor oil.

The Environmental Story

The BC Used Oil Management Association levies an Environmental Handling Charge (EHC) on the sale of motor oil, motor oil filters, and motor oil containers to help cover the cost of diverting these potentially toxic items from landfills or even worse, our waterways. Used motor oil is re-refined for reuse and uses two-thirds less energy than refining crude oil. Used oil is also used in the production of asphalt or can be burned as an energy source.
