Gasoline

Gasoline

Poison,

Lurking in an unused vehicle or at the back of the shed, you may find yourself with spare gasoline.

How do I go green?

Reduce

Walk, cycle, or car pool, so that you reduce your carbon footprint and gasoline use.  Don't idle.  Use a push mower to mow your lawn.

Reuse

Check with your friends, family and colleagues before disposing of fuel, as they may have a use for it. Gasoline that has been sitting for a while can be made usable by adding a stabilising additive or by adding new gasoline and using it for the lawnmower instead of the car.

Recycle

Gasoline is part of the Household Hazardous Waste collection at the Hartland Recycling Facility and at the alternate locations listed below, in residential quantities.  All residential Household Hazardous Waste is accepted free of charge.  Gasoline must be returned in an approved ULC container, which stays at the depot.  Phone the facility before dropping it off.

The Environmental Story

Gasoline is a fossil fuel and non-renewable resource that our vehicles guzzle everyday. Our cars release exhaust in the process that pollutes our atmosphere.  If disposed of improperly, gasoline will seep into our groundwater and soils. Gasoline is accepted free of charge in residential quantities at designated facilities or Product Care Depots across BC as part of the legislated Product Stewardship program coordinated by the Product Care Association.  An eco fee is included in the cost each time a flammable liquid is purchased to cover the cost of safe disposal or recycling.
