Pane glass from windows, doors and mirrors can’t be recycled in your Blue Box—even a little can contaminate a whole load. But there are other options for disposing of this awkward product without having to toss into the landfill.

How do I go green?

Reduce

Consider making and installing storm windows for your single paned house windows instead of replacing them all with double paned glass. Purchase furniture such as coffee and dinner tables made of sustainably harvested wood rather than glass.

Reuse

Use the glass from your old coffee table to make a cold frame for vegetable gardens in your back yard.

Recycle

See below for a listing of recycling facilities that accept glass panes.

The Environmental Story

Glass takes an eternity to biodegrade in a landfill. Made of silica heated to high temperatures, it has been made by humans for a millennium.
