Take a second to decide if you really need that home security system. Crime rates have fallen significantly over the past twenty years. Much of our worry about crime may stem from higher media awareness and an increased emphasis on personal safety over the last decade.
Reuse
Inquire at home security retailers to see if buying a refurbished system is an option.
Recycle
Home security cameras are now part of the Product Stewardship program for electronic waste. They can be taken to a number of drop-off locations throughout the CRD for free for recycling—you already paid for this service with an environmental handling fee (EHF) when you bought it.
