It’s down there, in a dark corner of your basement, waiting for the right time to...BE RECYCLED!

How do I go green?
Reduce
Turning down the standby temperature on your tank by a few degrees will lengthen the life of your tank by reducing the amount of mineral build up and corrosion inside. It will also save you money on your electricity or gas bill. Try to reduce the amount of work your tank does by taking a short shower, a small bath and by installing a low-flow shower head. You can also wrap your tank in additional insulation which is available at many hardware stores.
Reuse
There aren’t many uses for an old hot water tank; they are banned as garbage, so you must bring it in to be recycled as scrap metal.
Recycle
Most standard hot water tanks can be dismantled and recycled with other large household appliances, but call your local recycling facility to be sure they can take yours.
