Under the BBQ, in the boat and on the camper van—yes, you’ve probably got a few of these metal cylinders in your possession. Please dispose of them properly though, when their lifespan is at an end.

How do I go green?
Reduce
Keep your propane tank out of the elements, if possible, to prevent it from rusting or beginning to leak. Turn off your portable cook stove and remove the tank when not in use so you don’t waste propane.
Reuse
Unfortunately, after its refillable life is over, you can’t reuse a propane tank safely at home, so please take it to one of the depots listed below. Old tanks are a safety risk for yourself and others if left lying around.
Recycle
Designated recycling facilities can safely depressurize your old tank. They will then remove the valve and recycle the tank and valve with other metals. Keep in mind that some facilities have a maximum number of tanks you can bring per visit, such as Hartland Landfill (2 tanks), so call before you set out to do your eco-duty.

The Environmental Story
Attention—don’t just throw old tanks in the garbage, they’re a safety risk! A tank that has not been properly depressurized can explode if punctured or cause a fire if it leaks. Besides, if you bring them to your local recycling facility they can be recycled instead of being buried in a landfill.
Save the Date!
