Rigid plastic packaging includes packaging from consumer goods such as tools and electronics, food, such as salads and baked goods and empty CD/DVD/VHS protective cases. Many of these items are bulky and will not have a traditional recycling triangle imprinted on them. Don’t be fooled—they can still be recycled easily—in your CRD Blue Box!

How do I go green?
Reduce
There is no better response to manufacturer’s trends toward increased plastic packaging than refusal. Just don’t buy items that employ wasteful packaging. There are almost always alternatives.
Choose fruit and baked goods in bulk rather than in plastic containers; download music and movies from iTunes rather than buying CDs DVDs and their packaging; choose to refuse and keep the planet healthier.
Reuse
Plastic containers can be washed and reused to hold hardware, craft supplies or seeds.
Recycle
All rigid plastic packaging (except Styrofoam) can be recycled in your curbside Blue Box. Rigid plastic can also be dropped off at the depots and companies listed below.

The Environmental Story
Rigid plastic packaging creates far more waste than necessary for the packaging and selling of consumer goods. Like a wildfire that has spread in wind, this packaging now encloses many common items we can buy at the hardware store, pharmacy or toy store, leaving a mountain of unnecessary plastic in its wake.
Save the Date!
