If you don’t have anyone to give your old bike or hockey skates to and don’t have the time or energy to sell them, bring them in to be recycled.

How do I go green?
Reduce
Repair your ailing equipment and maintain your bicycles so they last as long as possible. Don’t buy the kids the newest equipment just because it’s cool, tell them to keep using what they have until it wears out.
Reuse
There are many children whose families can’t afford to buy expensive sports equipment, so donate it to a salvation army or to a used equipment shop. Your local community centre may even have “yard sales” scheduled where local residents can buy or sell old sports equipment.
Recycle
Your old bike probably contains mostly steel, but may also contain other precious metals. Your old skates contain metals and plastics that can be recycled as well. Much of the sports equipment you no longer use can be easily reused or recycled and by getting rid of it, you might even be able to park your car in the garage again!

The Environmental Story
Sports equipment and bikes take a great deal of power to produce and transport, so keep that in mind the next time you think about buying new gear. Using your bike instead of the car is an obvious green solution and a healthy one as well.
Save the Date!
This year, Hartland Happening is on Sunday June 24th.
10:30 am to 3:00 pm
