Tetra Pak revolutionized the packaging and distribution of food products in the 1950's. Tetra Pak is now the most widely used food packaging supplier worldwide.

How do I go green?
Reduce
Larger cartons now come with resealable lids. Instead of purchasing a supply of small cartons, get a large one to keep in the fridge and drink from cups or refillable containers. Switch to a glass bottle soya milk provider, where your empty bottles will be reused at least a dozen times before re-entering the recycling cycle.
Reuse
Cutting open Tetra Pak drink cartons reveals the silver interior, which can be a desirable material for kids crafting projects. There are number of websites outlining how to make a Tetra Pak wallet and other cool crafts from an old carton.
Recycle
Clean Tetra Pak containers are now accepted in the CRD blue box with your other containers. Most bottle depots will also accept clean milk and milk substitute containers for recycling as part of a product stewardship program for recycling such containers. All empty milk, cream, and milk substitute (soy & rice) beverage containers (plastic, cartons, and jugs) are included in this voluntary industry-run program. Containers include both polycoated and paper board containers like Tetra Paks or aseptics and gable top cartons. Go to Encorp for more details.

The Environmental Story
Tetra Pak cartons are a lightweight, easy to store and transport alternative to glass or plastic vessels. The construction of paper from sustainable forest sources, layered with aluminum and polyethylene allows for long term food preservation at room temperature. Billions of Tetra Pak cartons have ended up carelessly thrown into the trash, but over the last few decades many moves have been made to recycle this composite material. Used Tetra Paks are sent to facilities that separate the composite materials through a soaking process, the paper slurry is used to produce new paper products and the foil and polyethylene is skimmed off for further recycling.
